AUDITIONS FOR PRINCIPAL AND COMPRIMARIO ROLES AND POSITIONS IN
OUR STUDIO/RESIDENT/EMERGING ARTIST PROGRAMS AND CHORUS FOR THE 2026/2027 SEASON

SPO is pleased to announce auditions for its 21st season. 2026/27 productions include: THE MEDIUM (w/Halloween OPERA SCENES), ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO, and DIE FLEDERMAUS. Also include in the season will be a Pinocchio, a Holiday Showcase, and many community engagement programs.
Please read all the following information before requesting an audition.
Auditions will be held APRIL 9, 10, 11, 2026 in NEW YORK CITY and in ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA ON APRIL 28, 29, and 30, 2026 at the Palladium Theater.
SPO will hear both managed and unmanaged singers at these auditions, but audition spaces are limited and will be granted by invitation only upon review of artist materials.
To apply for an audition, you must email your complete application to Artistic Administrator Michael Roberts at office@spo.reefcybersecurity.com. Requests from agents as well as unmanaged singers will only be handled through Michael Roberts, Artistic Administrator.
Only completed applications will be considered and shall be processed and approved on a first come first serve basis. Space is limited.
A completed application includes 1) cover letter, 2) resume, 3) headshot, and 4) the repertoire list you will offer at the audition. (PDF files are preferred, non-PDF applications may be delayed.) Applications lacking any of these components will not be considered. No audio files please, and please do not link me to your materials.
Please specify in your cover letter whether you are seeking an audition in NYC or St. Pete. You may also include additional information such as the role(s) for which you are auditioning as well as whether you are seeking employment as a Principal and/or our Studio / Resident / Emerging Artist Cover Programs.
Mr. Roberts shall attempt to notify applicants of their status within two weeks of receipt of artist’s materials. An accompanist is provided for auditions in both NYC and Florida. Those accepted to audition will need to pay a fee of $35 (cash or check payable to St. Pete Opera) at check-in prior to auditioning. You may choose to bring your own accompanist.
Those artists who use their own pianist may pay a reduced application fee of $10 at check-in.
The deadline to apply for an audition in either city is March 20, 2026. Applicants are encouraged to apply early as the dates fill up quickly and well before the deadline. SPO will not be scheduling additional opera audition dates or private auditions.

Local singers auditioning only for CHORUS must prepare two selections from memory: one in English and the second in a language other than English.

Casting Details regarding SPO’s Fall 2026 production
and Season 21 Chorus needs

The fall production will be a ‘double bill’. The first half will comprise scenes from various shows that relate to a Halloween theme. The Medium, by Menotti will be the second half of the production.
To help you prepare your best audition for Season 21, please review the following casting notes and repertoire.
The low voice cast to sing Mr. Gobineau in The Medium will also perform in several of the Halloween Scenes. Additional low voices will also be cast to fill all the needed low voice roles in the Halloween Scenes.
Halloween Scenes (fall production first half)
Quartet from the final act of Rigoletto
Gilda – cast with the same soprano that is cast for Monica or Mrs. Gobineau in The Medium
Maddalena – cast with the same singer that is cast for Baba or Mrs. Nolan in The Medium
Rigoletto – low voice
Duke – tenor (This tenor may also be cast to sing solo selections from Jekyll and Hyde)
Trio from Tales of Hoffmann
Antonia – cast with one of the sopranos cast in The Medium
Voice of the Mother – cast with one of the lower female voices cast in The Medium
Dr. Miracle – low voice
Final Trio from Don Giovanni (3 low voices)

Season 21 Chorus needs
- Chorus is needed in the Fall production for two of the witches’ choruses from Verdi’s Macbeth as well as ensemble work from Jekyll and Hyde
- Chorus is needed for Abduction from the Seraglio (performed in English)
- Chorus is needed for Die Fledermaus (performed in English)
